My name is Brianna Dulitz, Developmental Officer/Case Manager at Revive Ministries Horizon Recovery and Counseling Center & The Unity Houses. I received my Associates of Applied Sciences in Human Services from Central Community College this past June. At Horizon, we have funds available for clients 55 years of age and older. With these funds, clients that meet the age requirement can receive counseling for substance abuse and/or mental health, free of charge. Services do not stop with individual sessions, Intensive Outpatient (IOP), ContinueCare/AfterCare, Life Skills class, Christian 12-Step, and a Drug & Alcohol class are also available at Horizon.
While at CCC I also became a certified Activities Therapy Assistant and Mental Health Advocate. The classes required for this certification showed me how important activities are for the aging population. I want to suggest the simplest, yet most rewarding activity for your residents and their families. I want to offer my assistance in talking with a few of your residents, then writing down their stories so that they may pass them on to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Talking is one of the best activities for our aging population because it helps them think, remember, and be social. Especially during this uncertain time, residents want someone to talk too. Myself, being someone’s child, grandchild, and great-grandchild, I personally would appreciate and cherish written notes of their life stories and advice. Other than my certification, I have experience working with the aging population from eight months of interning at The Heritage at College View, being employed in the activities department at The College View for nine months, and being a caretaker of my great-grandmother for the last five years of her life. I enjoy working with our aging population and would love listening to your residents’ stories, then writing it down for them.
